So my latest venture is to start rat breeding. I know some people have issues with new rat breeders popping up, what with the high rates of rescues about, and I can completely understand that. Too many people buy rats from pet shops, like Pets @ Home and other places, without really considering whats actually involved. Some people also decide to breed without any real thought about the animals or what they are doing, or even the people they home to.
So I'd like to ensure people this isn't a rushed decision or one made with the aim of making money. I've kept rats for several years and have experienced all the ups and downs of keeping these amazing creatures. My love for them has driven me to want to have the joy and experience of breeding them myself.
So I have made myself a website. I haven't actually started breeding yet, I am still arranging this with my breeder, who will hopefully become my mentor over the weeks and months to follow.
So without further ado. My website - http://www.heavensrattery.co.uk/
And the facebook page to accompany it - https://www.facebook.com/HeavensRattery
I have also decided to add a small shop section to the website. This is pretty bare at the moment, I'm planning to fill it out more as time goes by and I get a feel of what I want to sell. I'm not expecting much sales through it, its more for people who will buy kits from me to pick up a few things at the same time.
But I can to be optimistic for once in my life maybe!

Cake Off!
So I'm entering a modest baking competition this weekend to raise money for the local animal shelter.
I've decided to enter the 'sponge' category, I've made sponges before so thought I'd stand a better chance at it going right, but I didn't just want to do a normal Victoria sponge.
So its going to be sponge roullade instead!
It's a Victoria sponge with strawberry jam and vanilla cream with strawberry pieces.
There are so many things that could of gone wrong while making this, (I've had bad experiences with whipping cream before), but thankfully it all turned out all right, and it tastes pretty good too!
All I have to worry about now is being able to replicate it in a few days time.

I also made some chocolate orange pin wheel cookies. These aren't being entered into the competition but I felt like doing them anyway.
